The North American F-107A was a derivative of the F-100 Super Sabre. It was intended to be a fighter bomber and was pitted against the F-105 Thunderchief in its Air Force competition. The F-105 ended up winning the selection. The F-107 utilized one of the first variable inlets intended for production use. This same inlet made pilots wary as they were afraid of what may happen if the ejected. Probably some good logic there. With any luck I will get to see this plane tomorrow!

I've been close to one. They towed one over from Pima for one of the air shows at DM. It was quite interesting looking. I'm still pissed I didn't go ask questions of the tow guys.

That's where I will see one tomorrow. I was actually there once when I was a kid, but that was many moons ago!

I remember hearing that the intake's position could lead to the engine becoming starved of air at high angles of attack. I think that would be a bigger problem than what happens during an ejection...

Just for a day to "talk" to Honeywell. We have a bit of time this afternoon so I figured I would hit the museum.

Well, that's awesome and a bit sad (that you'll only be here for a short time). PAASM is an amazing place. Hopefully you get some time, and last I checked the 107 is in the main hanger.

Lots of planes to see, and now they've got a MI-24D out and will shortly have an F-86E (currently in resto, and the F-86H and F-86L are outside, and the Mk V which was also in the primary hanger ). I might stalk their facebook page... and need to renew my membership.

If you're ever in town for more than an afternoon let me know.
